Senior Trooper Monty Dial (Ret.)
Texas Highway Patrol
Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division
Senior Trooper Monty Dial has been with the Texas Department
of Public Safety (DPS) for more than 28 years. He is currently
a senior trooper with the Texas Highway Patrol Division,
working in the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Service.
He began his career with Texas DPS in 1977 working in
the Driver License Division conducting driving tests and
processing Driver License application. In 1981, he transferred
into the License & Weight Service, now called Commercial
Vehicle Enforcement.
His first 8 years there spent enforcing weight, oversize,
registration and traffic laws and regulations. He then
was given additional responsibilities and duties for enforcing
the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations and for conducting
Compliance Reviews (Transportation Audits) on trucking
companies.
From 1997 to 2003, Dial served as a motorcoach instructor
at the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National
Training Center. Among other things, he taught state troopers
the safety regulations governing motorcoach operations
and how to properly perform safety inspections on this
equipment.
Dial teamed up with Ol' Blue, USA’s founder RJ Taylor
in 1999 and began appearing with him and Ol' Blue, USA
(United Safety Alliance, Inc.) at truck shows, where he
helped answer truckers questions related to safety and
legal issues concerning commercial vehicles. He also soon
became a regular guest on the Ol' Blue, USA's Ask The
Law Program, heard on The Midnight Trucking Show and Open
Road Cafe' radio shows.
In March of 2008, Dial was awarded the Gold Award in Radio for the “Ask The Law”™ radio program for the 4th year in a row and a Silver Award for Magazine Writing - Public Service for the “Ask The Law”™ Q & A print column, from the Truck Writers of North America (TWNA). September 2008:
After more than 31 years of faithful and dedicated service to the Texas Highway Patrol's Commercial Vehicle Enforcement (CVE) division and to the citizens of Texas, Trooper Dial has decided to retire. Trp. Dial has been extremely supportive of Ol' Blue, USA, and the trucking industry, for many years.
His retirement will be a great loss to our industry, and we wish him well.
However, we are honored that Trp. Dial remains committed to our organization and will continue to volunteer his services to Ol' Blue, USA. This is a great tribute to his values and to our safety organization. We are very appreciative.
